Keratin Hair Treatment vs. Brazilian Blowout: Why BB Wins!

The differences between a keratin hair treatment and a Brazilian blowout are vast though they may seem intricate. Learn why the Brazilian blowout wins.

If you've been trying to manage your frizzy hair, you've probably heard about how keratin hair treatment can help.

Keratin treatments cover the follicles with a layer of protein to reduce frizz while adding softness and shine.

But for all of the positive press, it might not be the miracle cure it's made out to be.

Here are a few reasons to second guess your keratin treatment.

Mind the Ingredients

Quick question: what's the active ingredient in a keratin treatment?

If you said "keratin, duh," you'd be wrong.

Keratin might get top billing, but it's just the name on the box. Most of the actual straightening is done by sodium hydroxide and ammonium thioglycolate.

But those are hardly the only hard-to-pronounce chemicals in the treatment. There is also formalin, methylene glycol, methanol, and methanediol.

While these chemicals might be relatively safe on their own, when combined with water and heated, they form something a bit more sinister: formaldehyde

Frizz or Breakage?

People get keratin treatments to make their hair look shiny and smooth.

But that isn't always what happens.

While these chemicals may straighten your hair, they do so by drying your hair out.

This leaves your hair brittle, which can lead to breakage and split ends.

Additionally, dry hair may be straight, but instead of a glorious sheen, it looks flat and dull. Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

The Genuine Article?

You wouldn't pay brand-name price for a generic handbag, would you? And yet many hair salons are charging brand-name prices for knockoff keratin treatments

Or, they might be watering down their product to cut down on costs. But be assured that they aren't giving you a discount.

On top of that, many keratin treatment brands have gone out of business for offering poor products. But then they simply rebrand as another company and keep selling the same treatment.

Who Has the Time?

It can sometimes feel like you're spending countless hours trying to keep your curly hair under control. If you're rangling your curls with a straight iron every day, it's easy to see why a long-term solution would be attractive.

A keratin treatment can take as long as four hours to complete, depending on the length and thickness of your hair.

In the best case scenario, the results will only last for around three months, at which point you will have to return to the salon.

However, experts only recommend three keratin treatments per year, or else your hair will be damaged. The math there doesn't support healthy hair.

Alternatives to Keratin Hair Treatments

While keratin treatments are certainly popular, they are hardly the best option for a long term straightening treatment.

If you're looking for a better solution, why not consider a Brazilian blowout?

Unlike a keratin treatment, which merely sits on the surface of the hair, a Brazilian blowout permeates the follicle, reducing frizz at the source—without the formaldehyde.

A Brazilian blowout takes about half as long as a keratin treatment, and can easily last three months. Some people have even been able to get six months out of a single treatment.

Hair Straightening Solutions: The Benefits of a Brazilian Blowout

By now, you've heard of the hair straightening solution that has dazzled heads of hair and taken the industry by storm. Discover why the Brazilian Blowout

Have you long dreamed of having silky and luxurious hair like some of your favourite celebrities?

Tired of spending what feels like forever in the morning trying to tame your dry, frizzy tresses?

If you're considering a professional hair straightening treatment, we strongly suggest that you go with a Brazilian blowout

What makes it better than other treatments on the market today -- and is it right for your hair?

Read on to find out.

1. It's Fast

You've tried other hair straightening methods in the past, like Keratin treatments, and you just weren't happy with all the rules you had to abide by to keep the results.

Waiting three days to be able to wash your hair? Not being able to put it in a ponytail directly after treatment? No thanks!

With a Brazilian blowout, you can wash and put up your hair whenever you'd like. The entire treatment is started and finished in the salon.

So, hit the gym or try out that trendy new hairstyle without having to wait.

2. It's A Safer Hair Straightening Option Than Other Treatments

Looking for an option that's much less harsh than some of the other chemical hair straightening techniques on the market?

Concerned about breakage, dry hair, and damage to your strands?

A Brazilian hair treatment is a much safer option that won't dry out or damage your hair. Your hair will also keep its natural volume, and you can customize the exact look you want.

3. It Works on All Hair Types

Whether you have curly, wavy, frizzy, straight, or kinky hair, you're a good candidate for a Brazilian blowout.

In just about an hour and a half, you'll leave the salon with the look you've always wanted -- but never really thought you could ever get.

4. It Penetrates Your Hair

What really makes the Brazilian blow dry so effective is that it deeply penetrates your hair, as opposed to just coating your hair and sitting on top of the strands.

The treatment is directly absorbed into your hair's cuticle, and it happens instantly. Plus, unlike Keratin treatments, which harden your hair, Brazilian blowouts soften it.

5. It Won't Fade Colour

Unlike many other hair treatments, a Brazilian blow dry will note fade your colour. In fact, it can be applied right after you've had your hair coloured.

It will also help your hair to stay healthy, since it conditions your hair with amino acids and seals your cuticles at the same time. For those who frequently colour their hair, this is a must.

How to find a good hair salon ?

Everyone wants the best colour, cut, style, blowout etc possible but how do you go about finding a competent hairdresser..

The answer is word of mouth. If not in person ask the question on facebook.

Everyone wants the best colour, cut, style, blowout etc possible but how do you go about finding a competent hair straightening hairdresser..

The answer is word of mouth. If not in person ask the question on facebook.

Google reviews can easily be faked now so I try figure out if the review/s for that business are legitimate. Google reviews are flawed, anyone can open up multiple Gmail accounts and pump up their reviews.

Referrals/ word of mouth is the most reliable.  I do not trust the work I see on Instagram as every pic is filtered and photo shopped.

How to look after your keratin hair treatment

How to look after you Keratin Treatment Brazilian Blowout.

Looking After Your Brazilian Blowout.

You should use the shampoo that's best suitable with the treatment and the type of hair you have.

Do not wash your hair aggressively, just be gentle and your blowout will last longer. If you go to the gym daily then yes wash your hair everyday otherwise twice a week is plenty.

Colour and Keratin go together and in that order.

When having the Brazilian Blowout I recommend having the colour done first and the Brazilian Blowout done anytime after that. If the timing is off you can have the keratin treatment Brazilian Blowout first and colour the hair 2 weeks later.

You are permitted to use dry shampoo, this will not affect the Brazilian Blowout keratin treatment.

When swimming in the ocean always apply a serum in the hair beforehand this will protect your hair from the saltwater. After swimming rinse with fresh water. Same principle applies if swimming in the pool.

When using these principles the Brazilian Blowout hair straightening keratin treatment will last you over 3 months.

My favourite Keratin treatment

When we opened up in 2008 the first keratin treatment we used was the Global keratin.

That was one of the first ones to come out and it gave clients great results. They eventually changed the ingredients and now it's weak and does not really work.

That was one of the first ones to come out and it gave clients great results. They eventually changed the ingredients and now it's weak and does not really work.

That's when we switched to Brazilian Blowout, which is the worlds most popular treatment.

It takes about 60-80 mins to do a Brazilian Blowout. Keratin treatments take about 2-3 hours. Issues we experienced with keratin is that the hair would get oily. You will not have this issue with the brazilian blowout.

What is the best keratin treatment ?

The answer is unfortunately none.

It is just about impossible to know which salon is using genuine products or knocks offs. As of 2018 the keratin companies keep changing names cause their brand have a reputations for not working.

The answer is unfortunately none.

It is just about impossible to know which salon is using genuine products or knocks offs. As of 2018 the keratin companies keep changing names cause their brand have a reputations for not working.

A number of salons in Sydney have resorted to buying google reviews and followers for their social media from IT companies in India to make them look relevant. If a supplier offered me a keratin bottle today I would knock it back, I would never risk using it on my clients hair.

Keratin treaments can change hair colour dramatically as it contains ingredients that fades the hair colour.

The brazilian blowout does not fade hair colour. It enhances it

Do not be blinded by cheap deals, If they are doing it cheap it's cause the product they use is cheap. It is your hair. Your choice.
